Recruiting Summer Lacrosse

Nation’s Top 2022 recruits on display for “Midnight Madness” (RECAP)

Check out the top recruits in North Carolina tonight!!

It was a torrential down pour tonight for the NC Next Gen Showcase but the lacrosse action was on fire.

With the midnight deadline approaching to the start of the recruiting period to open for the 2022 class, Team91Carolina showcased some of its best rising junior talent.

The game was live streamed via Cruit Cast.

Here are some of the notable players from the game that saw the Fox team defeated the Hounds team 16-10.

  • Nathan Nicholas – Midfielder – Apex HS (NC) – This shifty middle had a solid night. Showcasing his quickness and footwork around the goal. Nathan scored some big goals and moved the ball well. Nicholas has great size and isn’t afraid to go to the cage from any spot whether its from behind or out front of the cage. Terrific summer season for this young man.
  • Carter Grubbs – Defense – Chapel Hill HS (NC) – Grubbs gets to the ground balls well and is a threat whether he is playing close D or is heading down to the offensive end to create points. Grubbs did just that by picking up an assist in the game. Definitely, a talent to keep an eye on going forward.
  • Ben Irmscher – Attack – Charlotte Catholic (NC) – Irmscher displayed good footwork and solid ball movement. We could tell he has good field sense and Lax I.Q. which is great to see, especially in the rainy conditions. Excellent shooter that shows good technique.
  • Drew Wheeler – Goalie – Fuquay Yarina HS (NC) – We liked the way this net minder always had his head on a swivel when the offense was moving the ball. Wheeler did a nice job of stopping some tough shots. Wheeler has quick hands and clears the ball without panicking. The rain was coming down hard and was probably tough to spot the ball but Wheeler held his own.
  • Xander Craven – Greensboro Day (NC) – Craven was the one who scored the nice goal off of the feed from Grubbs. Good solid attackman that also had a nice summer. Xander is always in good position and has his stick up ready to make something happen. We will keep an eye on Craven going forward.

Team91 North Carolina is doing a NC “midnight madness” 2022 all-star game from 9-11pm.

Live stream on CruitCast.

Damian Hall will be coaching the Hounds, long time Carolina coach who played at Loyola and now runs trianglelax.com and Peyton Smith of the Redwoods/Marist will be coaching the foxes. We pulled it together a bit fast as facility restrictions eased, should be a fun night!

This will be a great opportunity for some strong N.C. and South Carolina players in the ‘22 class to get some extra looks from college coaches before the September 1 recruiting period opens. When college coaches can contact 2022 recruits.

Also tonight, Inside Lacrosse will be having their own event for the top 2022’s as they will showcase 8 clubs the the Elite Eight. Featuring clubs from D.C., Maryland, Philadelphia, New England, Long Island, Michigan and other parts of the country. The Elite Eight will take place at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware.

Games begin at 5pm.
