BJ Burlace is ready to represent Anne Arundel County this weekend along four other of his teammates from St. Mary’s Annapolis.
The Saints had a promising season, going 11–6 and reaching the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association-A conference playoffs.
Burlace was a huge factor on the defense all season for St. Mary’s. The Yale University commit makes some ridiculous checks and can get after ground balls.
“It was an amazing feeling. I loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to be up there playing with them soon!” Said BJ, regarding Yale winning the Men’s NCAA Division 1 championship this past May.
The PRLB did a Q&A with BJ to get his thoughts on the season and what he’s looking forward to this weekend as he plays in Under Armour Underclass tournament for the Baltimore team.
Peace Report Lax Blog: How does it feel to be selected for the Under Armour Underclass event?
BJ Burlace: It is an honor to play for and represent Baltimore along with so many of my MIAA teammates. I look forward to playing against some of the best players in the country.
PRLB: Since you’ve already committed to play at Yale. What’s your motivation and your focus for this weekend?
Burlace: I am already committed to Yale University, so i am focusing on developing and improving my game as opposed to exposure.
PRLB: How long have you been playing lacrosse?
Burlace: I had a stick in my hand as early as I can remember.
PRLB: How did you feel St. Mary’s did this season?
Burlace: Overall it was a great season and we hit one of our goals; making the MIAA playoffs. Hopefully next season we will be able to take the next step!
PRLB: What are you trying to improve on skill wise this summer?
Burlace: In the summer tournaments i am more comfortable taking risks and opportunities and i have been working to strengthen my offensive game.
PRLB: What kind of sticks do you play with?
Burlace: It’s the magician, not the wand. Just kidding haha. Right now i am playing with an Under Armour Command 2.
PRLB: Name the favorite song your listening to now.
Burlace: I’m into just about all types of music. My favorite song currently is Something Like That by Tim McGraw.
PRLB: What’s your favorite movie?
Burlace: It has to be Step Brothers. I love that movie.
PRLB: In your opinion what’s the best part of your game?
Burlace: I think the strongest part of my game is between the restraining lines creating transition. I feel I am strong on ground balls and quickly creating opportunities for my offense.
