Peace Report: Severn Girls’ Lacrosse season preview

Severn is looking to put together a winning season in 2018 after falling below .500 last season. Head coach Erin McCarthy’s will be looking for some key players to step up this year after losing a dozen from the 2017 class to graduation two of which were the Admirals Top scorers and the goalie.

McCarthy, who is entering her third season as head coach has some impressive players retuning who will serve as leaders. Plus, a very competitive out of conference schedule will have Severn ready for A conference play in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) this season.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Sydney Kirchenheiter

SYDNEY KIRCHENHEITER: Junior, Midfield, Committed to Louisville University.

2017 Season: 4th on the team in goals, 3rd on the team in assist. 3rd on the team with Draw Controls (33). 1st on the team with ground balls. 2nd on the team with caused-turnovers (23). Sydney is an all‐around great athlete and hustler with incredible knowledge for the game. She will be a huge factor to both our offensive & defensive game this year.

CAM LEVIN: Junior, Attack. Committed to Elon.

2017 Season: 3rd on the team in goals (23g), 2nd on the team in assist. 3rd on the team with over-all points. 1st on the team with ground balls. Cam is the only returning starting attacker this year. She will be our leader on the offensive end. She has an incredible shot and will be a big factor in 2018 season.

REEGAN MORRIS: Senior Captain, Defense, Committed to York.

2017 Season: Reegan is a 3 year defensive starter. She is the vocal leader on our defense and our defense is often lost when she isn’t on the field. She will be a game changer for the defense this 2018 season.

HANNA RAMSEY: Senior Captain, Goalie, Committed to Monmouth.

2017 Season: Hanna was our back-up goalie last year, but was talented enough to start. She saw several minutes behind a very talented goalie. Although we lost our starting goalie last year, there will be no drop in talent in the cage this year. Hanna will anchor our veteran defense this year and she will certain be a player to watch this 2018 season.

2018 Outlook:

The Admirals lost 12 seniors, including 2 of our top scorers and our goalie. We return seven starters — total of 10 varsity players returning. Our entire starting defense is back with the addition of Senior Hanna Ramsey in goal. All 10 returning varsity players will make a huge impact this season. We lost some offensive threats this season, however, we return a handful of strong juniors to step up and make a difference on the offensive end. To win in our league this season, we will need to capitalize on our speed in the midfield and the strength of our veteran defense.

OCC Schedule:

Cape Henry, Norfolk Academy, Broadneck, South River, Severna Park
