Calvert Hall junior attackman Jacob Kelly named Peace Report Player of the Year

The criteria for the Players of the Year at The Peace Report is simple. We recognize the student athlete that exudes leadership in every game and when needed, will put their team on his or her backs to get a victory. The student athlete also should have a solid grade point average and be a active member in his or her community. Yes, we love big point numbers and playoff and championship performances help too. But here at the Peace Report we look at the student athletes total body of work.

The Peace Report’s Boys’ Player of the Year for 2017 is Calvert Hall junior attackman Jacob Kelly.

Kelly has been an offensive juggernaut for the Cardinals this season. The junior finished with 91 points this season (47 goals and 44 assists) plus he scooped up 42 ground balls.

The University of North Carolina commit had some huge games this season. Most notably in a regular season game against rival Loyola Blakefield when he scored the game-winning goal with time running off the clock in the fourth quarter.

Another game when Jacob game up big was in the Cardinals double overtime victory over Boys’ Latin, who at the time was also undefeated in the conference.

Kelly has a unique way of calming down the offense in any situation and just moving the ball around until a shooting lane opens or a defenseman misses a slide. That’s what happened against BL. With around two minutes left in the second overtime Kelly found teammate Brendan Curry who fired a laser shot past the Lakers goalie for the win and to keep Calvert Hall perfect in one of the toughest leagues in the country.

Of course Jacob played a vital part with guiding Calvert Hall to their third Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A-Conference championship. Kelly scored a combined five-goals in both the semifinals and championship games.

Jacob has a 3.7 GPA. He is the Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athlete Club at Calvert Hall. He also does individual lessons for lacrosse to little kids. He volunteers at a Community living center, Sun Rise Assisted Living.

**The Peace Report Girls’ Player of the Year will be announced Friday.**
